About Me

Solution Architect and Technical Programme / Project Lead

I am a Senior Solution Architect @ Dimension Data

I have extensive experience in designing large solutions spanning many technology areas, products and services.  I also participate as a technical lead and design consultant in tactical projects as well as larger and more strategic programmes.

I provide clients with assistance circumnavigating the multitudes of products and services in the ICT space whilst also aiding with defining tactical and strategic goals as well as actively executing on tasks to help clients achieve defined objectives.

I am equally comfortable developing strategic roadmaps as I am designing  comprehensive solutions spanning entire ICT landscapes and also enjoy providing any technical aid and assistance given my wide-ranging capabilities stemming from my support engineer background.

Work History

2015-Current

Senior Solution Architect (Central Consulting)

Dimension Data

In an effort to further challenge myself and expand my capabilities, in 2015 I moved across to the Central Consulting team within Dimension Data where I took up a Senior Solution Architect role. I am finding this role particularly enjoyable as it speaks to capability and knowledge spanning not only technology but also engagement with business (and application teams) and a broad understanding of enterprise architecture and how to apply it’s tenets and principles where necessary in the context of tactical information technology consulting.

2006-2015

Solution Architect

Internet Solutions

Continuing within Internet Solutions: In 2006 I made the decision to move out of support and chose a Solution Architecture role which evolved in 2008 to a joint role of Solution Architect and Team Manager. Between 2008 and 2015 I enjoyed the challenges of leading and managing a growing team of architects whilst still continuing to perform a Senior Solution Architect role myself. In this position we developed solutions spanning Infrastructure, Software and Platforms as a Service spanning multiple technologies and areas of IT. From a management role, responsibilities included but were not limited to attracting, employing and retaining staff, helping ensure goals and targets are set and met as well as developing and defining ways of work.

1991-1995

Personal Computer Technician

ESP Computers ; Olive Computers

My career began in High School where I worked part time assembling and repairing personal computers for ESP Computers and then Olive Technologies after ESP Computers closed down. After matriculating in 1993, my role changed to a full-time one (at Olive Technologies) where I remained for another two years.

1995-1998

Support Technician

Datatec

My role changed when I moved across to Datatec where I performed troubleshooting and provided support across US Robotics products (primarily Sportster and Courier modems).

1998-2006

Support Engineer

Internet Solutions

In 1998 I joined Internet Solutions in its’ ICON dial-up internet service provider division where I provided customer support from both a call centre role and then also by providing on-site support when driving out to clients. In 1999, I moved to a junior support role within Internet Solutions which I held until 2001, providing support to corporate clients. From then on I was promoted through different support teams: 2002-2003 performing hosting and systems support and then 2004 until 2006 providing network support including a senior after-hours standby role.
